Barry man arrested as police detain 25 in day of action

A MAN from Barry is among 25 people arrested during a coordinated police operation across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The coordinated action targeted individuals suspected of offences including shoplifting and burglary, as well as people wanted on outstanding warrants.

Officers carried out arrests at multiple locations on 28th January as part of efforts to tackle crime and bring offenders before the courts.

Police said the operation forms part of ongoing work to disrupt criminal activity and improve community safety across the region.

A total of 25 people, including four on suspicion of domestic abuse related offences, one for a drug supply offence and one for blackmail were arrested during the day of action. The total also included four people wanted on warrant and five people wanted on recall to prison.

Three people have been charged following the operation: Dominic Ferrugia, 51, of Barry, on suspicion of attempted burglary; Michelle Court, 49, of Adamsdown, on suspicion of theft; and Chanelle Actie, 42, of Butetown, with two counts of theft from a shop.

Additionally, one person has since been found guilty following their arrest. Shanice Roderick, 21, of Ely, has been convicted of two counts of burglary following a court appearance on 29 January where she indicated guilty. She is due to appear for sentencing on 26 February.

Chief Inspector Matthew Hicks of the Cardiff and Vale command unit said: “We are going to pursuing those doing harm to our community and bringing them to justice. If you have concerns in your area, please report them and we will take action.”
