A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to five years and seven months in prison for being involved in the supply of cocaine.
South Wales Police (SWP) obtained a warrant to enter a property in Rhoose on 12th September where Jonathan Grossett was found sitting on the toilet frantically trying to flush away the Class A drug.
Officers recovered cocaine worth between £280 and £360 weighing 4.1 grams, scales covered in white powder, along with £2,500 in cash plus designer clothes and footwear believed to be purchased from the proceeds of crime.
Police also found 982 text messages on Grossett’s phone relating to the supply of drugs.
Grossett pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession of criminal property.
Prosecutor Amelia Pyke told Cardiff Crown Court that Grossett made an unrelated call to police officers, who realised the number was part of a known drugs line.
Hashim Salmman, mitigating on behalf of Grossett, asked for his client’s early guilty plea to be taken into consideration. He told the court Grossett suffered from a severe intestine condition that meant he had needed to attend hospital twice since being taken into custody and that he required hospital appointments every three months.
Judge Lucy Crowther handed Grossett a prison term of five years and seven months and ordered him to pay a statutory surcharge.
Detective Inspector Bartley said: “Jonathan Grossett is yet another man who saw Class A drugs as a “get-rich-quick” scheme.
“Drugs blight our communities, and Jonathan was playing his part in bringing that misery to the streets of Cardiff.”
Grossett, who gave a home address in Pentwyn, has 24 previous convictions for 54 offences including 10 drug crimes committed between 2005 and 2023.
As an 18-year-old, Grossett was detained in a young offender institution for two months after he committed an assault and three counts of criminal damage to a Ford Ka.
Grossett has previously been imprisoned for drug offences and in 2015 he admitted a charge of fraud by false representation when he scammed £6,000 from a 93-year-old woman in Monmouthshire. The victim had limited mobility and was almost completely blind.
