How Saffron’s kind gesture sparked a great charitable donation

'Family are so proud of Saffron for her kind deed':

A local girl with spectacularly long hair recently decided to make a substantial donation to the Little Princess Trust – which supplies wigs to children having medical treatment that leads to hair loss.

Saffron Pooley, aged 11, had decided to have her hair cut for the first time and donate it to The Little Princess Trust.

Saffron’s hair before

As you can see from the photo, Saffron’s hair was very long indeed and she visited the Cutting Room in Boverton, Llantwit Major, where her hair was prepped, and she was given the choice of making the first cut, which she declined.

One advantage of her such long hair was that saffron could donate 26” of her tresses, while still keeping a full head of hair. She was initially hoping to raise £100 – also to be donated to the Little Princess Trust but there was a big surprise in store for her.

Her grandfather David Cox, the current president of Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions, explained: “At the time of the hair cutting her donations totalled some £600, through very kind donations from friends, family and Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lion members.

“Then, as a complete surprise, there were donations totalling some £600 from Llantwit Major Masonic Lodge.9241 & NAHFO (National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers). Saffron had no knowledge of these donations until the total was revealed after the cutting,

“So, this took the total past £1,420 plus gift aid – a figure she never dreamed she would get anywhere near. She would like to thank her friends, family and everyone involved especially: NAHFO, Llantwit Major Masonic Lodge No. 9241; members of Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions; and the Cutting Room for their time.

“All her family are so proud of Saffron for her kind deed. The Little Princess Trust relies on kindness and donations to help children who lose their hair through illness or cancer.”
