Search for the social sisters’ hearts
BARRY residents and visitors are being invited to try and find 20 quilted hearts scattered around the town – made by a member of the Social Sisters group.
Social Sisters consists of around 65 women of all ages who meet at The Tadross Hotel in Barry on Thursday evenings for entertainment, friendship, learning, crafting and much more.
All 20 quilted hearts were made by Glenys Gratton, who is originally from Barry but now lives with her husband in Chester, though she remains part of the Social Sisters group and pays regular visits to the area to see family and friends.
Glenys sent the quilted hearts to the Social Sisters, whose members have hidden them in locations throughout Barry. Each quilted heart contains a tag with an uplifting message written on it.
The first quilted heart was discovered by local resident Lauren Paige outside the Post Office on Holton Road, and she told the ‘Beautiful Barry’ Facebook group that finding it put a smile on her face.
Gemma Collard from Social Sisters said: “Glenys is a very talented lady and she remains a good friend of ours, even though she lives in Chester nowadays. She sent us the 20 quilted hearts and our members have distributed them far and wide throughout Barry.
“There are still 19 more out there somewhere! When you see one, please collect it and share your discovery with local Facebook groups, including the Social Sisters page. We hope that by doing this, we can bring a little bit of happiness into people’s lives.”
The Social Sisters group is currently oversubscribed, and there is a waiting list. Gemma said: “We’re a mixture of people from all age groups, and there’s a really positive vibe at our weekly meetings.
“We have educational talks, crafting sessions, yoga, we arrange days out and lots more besides.
“Unfortunately, we can’t have more than 65 members at any one time because there simply isn’t room at the venue but newcomers are welcome to get in touch via the Facebook group and join our waiting list.”
