Senedd contender dies suddenly of sepsis
A SENEDD election contender has died during the early hours of Thursday at Morriston Hospital following the development of severe sepsis and being placed into palliative care.
Caroline Jones stood as an independent candidate for the Penybont Bro Morgannwg constituency at last week’s election.
Politicians, friends and residents across Wales have paid tribute to Mrs Jones and offered their condolences to her family following news of her death.
Mrs Jones (71) had previously served as a member of the Senedd for five years, representing the South Wales West region from 2016 to 2021. She had been elected as a member of UKip and later switched affiliation to the Brexit Party before standing as an independent in last week’s vote.
Speaking with the BBC Mrs Jones’ husband, Alun Williams, said: “she was a ‘fantastic woman’ who was well-liked in the Senedd and ‘couldn’t do enough for other people’.”
