Early hour shop burglaries in Barry

POLICE are investigating a series of early hour break-ins after burglars smashed open doors and stole cash from shop premises in Barry.

Four businesses in Park Crescent and one in High Street were targeted by the thieves on Sunday, 18th May, with entrance doors being damaged to gain entrance to each of the shops.

Reset Wellbeing's front door was extensively damaged during the burglary.

One of the owners and mum of two, Ruth John of Reset Wellbeing on Park Cresent has spoken out about the incident, saying:

“We were saddened to discover that Reset Wellbeing was one of five local businesses affected by a spate of break-ins at approximately 3am on Sunday morning.

“Lewis Barber’s was the first, then Bella Donne Salon, then mine (Reset Wellbeing Reset with Ruth), then Stephen’s Barbers, then they moved to high street and targeted Marcos Pizza. They’ve taken cash tins, tills and even tip boxes.

“Some items of high value were taken from other places. Other than the doors kicked in, they’ve not damaged anything inside, just gone straight for the money. It seems they’ve purposely picked premises they believe will have cash as we’re all service led businesses.

“All small, local and family run. It’s not just the cash, it’s the rescheduling of clients, the time off work to fix doors and locks and mentally recover from the shock of someone breaking into a space we’ve spent thousands on and spent months creating.”

A police spokesperson said: “South Wales Police is investigating commercial burglaries in Barry.

“Four businesses in Park Crescent and one in High Street were broken into during the early hours of Sunday, May 18.

“We recognise that being a victim of burglary is traumatic, whether it’s your home, business, or workplace.

“Doors were damaged at each of the premises and cash was stolen from some of them.

“Anyone with information or CCTV footage is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting 2500156494.”

South Wales Police are asking business to review their security systems and make it clear that there is no cash on the premises overnight. They are also encouraging people to be vigilant of anyone seen hanging around businesses or retail premises during the early hours of the morning.
