Sport – Double success for Barry Athletic ladies
JUST three years after reforming, Barry Athletic Ladies bowls team have surpassed all expectations by completing a league double.
Led by captain Rose Weaver and vice-captain Julia Kiddie, the Athletic ladies set a hot pace all season – followed closely by Penarth Rectory Road – to clinch the Glamorgan County Evening League. The pressure was all on the Athletic as they needed to win their last match to win the Monday evening Division. They won in style to finish with 88.5 points, a few points in front of Penarth.

This summer, the Athletic entered the Glamorgan County Two Rink Thursday afternoon League for the first time. Despite the unfamiliarity of the format and opposition, the Athletic ladies were once again proclaimed champions, playing 11 games and amassing an impressive 90 points. Runners up Pentyrch were over 10 points behind.
