WITH an eye to the future, Barry Rugby Club is setting its sights on joining the WRU Conference League next season.
Preparation for that starts in earnest on Saturday, 2nd March, when a mixed team of senior and youth players will host Cardiff and District Premier Division Llanrumney (2.30pm). The Conference team will be the club’s Second team, and the league will provide more regular game time than the current Second team gets by playing only friendly fixtures.
The Barry team is being put together by Youth head coach John Dimond, who has been in touch with several former players, some of whom he coached when he played in the club’s Second team.
“It will be a big thing for some of the younger boys who will be getting their first taste of senior rugby,” said Dimond. “Hopefully next season we will get more former players back who can give the younger players a helping hand.”
- Barry’s First team return to Admiral National League Division One East Central action on Saturday, 2nd March, with a fixture at mid-table St Joseph’s.
