SPORT: Four tries but no conversions cost Cowbridge

COWBRIDGE RFC welcomed Caerphilly on a fine day and the match started at a fast pace with home team captain Dix scoring a typical sniping scrum half try after just two minutes. The conversion was missed.
Two minutes later, Caerphilly equalised with a converted try by their number 11. There then followed an exchange of penalties, before Caerphilly seemed to be taking control of the game with two more converted tries to finish the first half 24 – 8 up.
However, things changed in the second half after some home team substitutions. In the 63rd minute, after some classy handling in the backs, Angus James finished a move but it went unconverted. In the 67th minute, Dix scored his second try of the game, again unconverted. With the score now at 18-24, the home team were looking the more dangerous.
However, a penalty then took Caerphilly two scores clear. Cowbridge had the last word with a try in the corner from Charlie Locke, but again there were no extra points – which was to prove crucial.
Final score: Cowbridge 23 Caerphilly 27. The next game is a league match home to Penarth on Saturday, 30th September.
