Sport – Vale of Glamorgan Football League round up

Four-goal Nash turns game around for St Athan

WITH league leaders Cardiff Airport Reserves’ game falling to the weather, it was a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap by playing games in hand.

Second placed Barry Athletic closed the gap to five points with a game in hand as they thumped Vale Athletic 7-0 at the Buttrills. Joe Tanner netted twice with Connor Parrett-Doyle, Ryan Escott, Callum Hobbs, Fraser Harding and Finley Saif scoring the others in a comprehensive win.

Third placed St Athan came back from 2-1 down at half time to defeat Penarth Town 5-2. James Austin put St Athan in from early but a brace from David Shallis put Penarth in front at the break. However, Sean Nash hit four second half goals to pick up the points for St Athan.

Island Marine hit Vale United for seven at Maslin Park in a 7-1 win. Adam Owens hit a hat trick, with the league’s top scorer Liam Mallam notching twice. Jack Blackmore and Josh Kirke also found the net as Marine move into fourth.

In the Championship, unbeaten Vale Madrid moved within a point of leaders Cwm Talwg with a 5-1 victory over Peterston Super Ely. Goals were from David Evans, Mat James, Josh Cummings, Taylor Knight and Cory James.

In League One, Tom Holmes scored all six for Barry Athletic Development as they saw off Holton Road Reserves 6-2 to go third.

Cowbridge Town sit in fourth place as Connor Benyon scored twice in a 2-1 win over St Athan Development, a first win in five games for Cowbridge.
