Vote for Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg pupil in art competition

AN YSGOL Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg pupil, Anna Hughes, has reached the final in a South Wales art competition – and now needs your vote.
Chapter Arts’ Centre, in Cardiff, asked pupils to draw a postcard and Anna, a year 9 pupil, won the first prize in her age category for 12-16-year-olds.
She has been entered into the final and winner’s work will be displayed on their Lightbox for six months.

The drawing competition invited children and young people in Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Merthyr Tydfil to send themselves a postcard from an imagined future, half a century from now. They asked them to let their imaginations run wild – how will we travel? What will we eat? Where will we live? What will school look like?
1,200 submissions were made from 17 different schools.
An expert panel of judges – Andrew Ogun, agent for change at Arts Council Wales, and Kylie Allinson Beere, of their young programmer’s team, sifted through the submissions and picked the top three from each age group (five to eight years; nine to 11 years; and 12 to 16 years).
Anna won her age group and has now reached the final stages, but now needs your help as the winner will be chosen by public vote on Chapter’s website. Anna drew an NHS worker looking to the future and hoping for a brighter life in 50 years’ time. Scenes from the Vale and Cardiff can be seen with a bright blue sky.
Head of art, Nerys Griffiths said: “During the summer term, our KS3 pupils were given the opportunity to react to the challenge set by the Chapter’s Art Centre. Anna presented a special piece and we’re so proud that she has won the first prize. We’re now looking forward to hear the result of the vote and wish Anna well.”
Head teacher, Rhys Angell-Jones said: “We’re all very proud of Anna here at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg. This is an amazing opportunity offered to her by the art department and Chapter, and she has already done so well winning her age category. We wish her well in the public vote.”
Voting is open until Friday, 8th October.
