IT WAS a good day’s work for Sully Centurions, with both teams victorious.
The First XI travelled to Pentyrch on a gloriously sunny day and skipper Ricki Griffett won the toss and asked the home side to bat first. The decision was justified, with wickets falling immediately. By the end of the second over, Pentyrch were 2 for 3. All three batsmen were out without scoring. Harri Edwards (two) and Nick Jones (one) did all the early damage.
A spirited fourth-wicket partnership between Dabson and Osborne dragged them back into the game, but when Osborne was caught by Lloyd Bruce off Jake Griffet’s bowling, Pentyrch found themselves on 40-4 after 12 overs. Dabson was holding the innings together, with two partnerships with Ashby (16) and Hammett (34). This put some respectability on the score and by the 37th over, they had reached 157-7.
The final four overs saw some runs and wickets, leading to a total of 170-9, which, after the start, was more than Pentyrch would have expected. Jake Griffett (3-23) and Harri Edwards (2-13) were top bowlers for Centurions, with a special mention for Rhett Jones, who took three catches behind the stumps. For Pentyrch, Dabson top scored with a well-made 58.
After tea, the Sully innings began in much the same way as the home side. Lloyd Bruce was bowled by Ashby in the first over. However, that was the only similarity, as Kieron Ferriday and Shae Ellis began to enjoy themselves, putting on 93 for the second wicket. Ferriday fell victim to Hammett in the 13th over, having scored 37, an innings that included several boundaries, including one big six.
Ellis fell two runs later for 41 (an innings that included seven fours). Jake Griffett (22) and Rhett Jones took the score along to 126 before Jake became Hammett’s second victim. This left Rhett (35 not out) and Harri Edwards (15 not out) to take Centurions to victory, with Jones sealing the win with a boundary off the last ball of the 26th over.

Back at Burnham Avenue, the Seconds faced Rogerstone and lost an early wicket. But a half century partnership between Shaffiq Rehman and Youvraj seemed to have steadied the ship. But then the score went from 76-2 to 98-5, with last week’s big scorers Shan Rehman and Basil John going cheaply.
Bharat Bhanderi top scored for Centurions with a fine 66, and after he fell, the lower order all chipped in with helpful scores, to take Sully to 251-9. Sharratt, with four wickets, was the standout bowler for the visitors.
In reply, Rogerstone really gave it a go. The innings was punctuated with bursts of scoring, followed by wickets falling cheaply. Sunderham (71) and Sharratt (76) were the big scorers for Rogerstone, as they chipped away at the target, reaching 236 for 7. The breakthrough came when Bharat had Sharratt caught, triggering the fall of the last three wickets for just nine runs. In the end, the margin of victory was eight runs, but Centurions secured the victory and maximum points with just one over to go.
