SULLY SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB is returning to normal after members of the travelling community set up an illegal camp in their field on Friday (14th August).
The club posted a message on social media stating that the facility would not be open until the travellers had moved on, and the public were advised to stay away from the clubhouse and fields for the time being.
Among the events cancelled was Sully Sports FC’s first home match of the new Highadmit Projects South Wales Premier League Division One West season against Caerau All Whites, and a planned car boot sale on Sunday also had to be called off.
The travellers eventually left the site on Monday, and the Sully Sports home match against Tonypandy Albion is scheduled to go ahead as planned with a 2pm kick-off on Saturday.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “Just before 2pm last Friday, South Wales Police responded to reports of a large group causing a disturbance at Sully Sports Field.
“Officers liaised with the landowner so that everyone who was on site at the time was able to leave safely. Representatives from the group informed officers that they intended to stay for two days. Following this, the travelling community left the site on Monday afternoon.”
