Rain has final say in cricket season

Sully Centurions Cricket Club

THE 2026 league season ended as it had begun, with most games falling victim to the rain, including both First and Second XI matches for Sully Centurions CC.

So, the season ended with the First XI finishing mid-table and the Second XI finishing top and securing promotion. It was a disappointing end to the season, but the weather is something we have no control over.

On Sunday, though, Centurions past and present gathered at Ynysygerwen Cricket Club to play in a charity match, for former player Ryan Sylvester. Ryan, who graced the field for both clubs, is currently battling leukaemia. The match between Sully and Ynysygerwen, like the previous day, was interrupted by the weather.

However, the result was unimportant – the many spectators, some who had travelled a long way to be there, came to honour Ryan. A raffle and auction of sporting memorabilia helped raise money for the leukaemia-related charities. A good time was had by all, in spite of the weather and the seriousness of the occasion.

Another former Sully player, David Eskins, was instrumental in getting the event off the ground and getting the players together for the match. So, another season comes to an end. All at Sully Centurions CC are grateful to our main sponsors, GMB and Dutton Law.
