Thief steals car packed with Christmas parcels

By Marcus Stead - Reporter

A DELIVERY car containing Christmas presents was stolen while the owner was dropping off a package at Gary Watson Motor Company in Broad Street, Barry on Tuesday morning.

The theft happened at around 10am when the vehicle, a silver Peugeot 3008, registration YR12 CWV pulled up outside the main entrance to deliver a parcel to staff.

As the driver headed into the building, CCTV footage shows a young adult male walking past the unlocked vehicle and then turning back towards it, before opening the door and driving away. The male was wearing a dark coat, grey trousers with a white stripe down the side and white trainers.

Calvin O’Carroll, who works for Gary Watson Motor Company said: “We know the delivery driver very well, he works for a number of different companies and he drops parcels off here most days.

“This was just a typical day for us, he dropped the package off, took a photo of it as proof of delivery, we had a quick chat and a joke, and then as he returned outside he found the vehicle had been stolen.

“My guess is that the thief knew what he was doing and had been following him for some time in another vehicle and was waiting for this opportunity.

“The vehicle was full of Christmas presents that he was due to drop off around the area. We urge anyone with information about who this person is and the whereabouts of the vehicle and its contents to please come forward,” he said.
