Tributes paid after Cowbridge Cricket Club president dies
TRIBUTES have been paid to Cowbridge Cricket Club President, Jeff Bird who died on Thursday, 5th August.
Commenting on social media, a spokesperson for the club stated, “It is with deep sadness that the Club announces the sudden passing of its President, Jeff Bird.
“Jeff was taken into hospital early on Thursday morning (5th August), but regretfully died later that day.
“Jeff was President of the Club for the past 10 years and will be greatly missed by all.
“Our thoughts are with Andrea and the family at this difficult time.”
Born in December 1957, Jeff attended Cowbridge Grammar School before studying at Emmanuel College in Cambridge and attending the University of Edinburgh.
Returning to Cowbridge, Jeff joined the family gardening and horticultural business, and became a prominent and well-known figure within the local community.
Jeff was also a prominent former committee member of Glamorgan Cricket for 28-years, and board member of Cricket Wales.
Long-standing friend and CEO of Glamorgan Cricket, Hugh Morris commented on how deeply shocked and saddened he was to learn of the passing of Jeff.
