THE Barry Cup round two delivered a feast of upsets on Saturday, with several Premier Division sides sent crashing out by teams from the divisions below.
The first shock came at St Athan, where Championship side Barry Athletic Reserves stunned the Premier Division hosts 3-1. Tom Halliday struck twice before Mason Marks sealed a memorable victory late on, sending Athletic through to the quarter finals.
There was another huge upset at Vale Madrid, where League One Holton Road came from 2-1 down to beat the Premier Division side 6-3. Tyler Donnelly was the star of the show with a hat-trick as Holton produced one of the results of the round.
League One also provided another Premier Division casualty as Ely Rangers Reserves Wenvoe eliminated Peterston Vale on penalties. The sides drew 2-2 after Ely had twice taken the lead, before Rangers held their nerve in the shootout to progress.
Cardiff Airport Reserves also claimed a notable scalp, beating local rivals Rhoose Social 3-2. Luke Motruk scored twice as the Championship side secured their place in the last eight.
There was no upset at FC Barry, however, as Premier Division leaders AFC Rhoose cruised through with a 5-2 victory. Zak Grinter was unstoppable, scoring four times to send Rhoose into the quarter finals.
Sparta Park also advanced comfortably, beating Sully Sports Development 4-0. Nathan Donnelly scored twice as Sparta bounced back strongly from their recent league defeat to Vale United.
Island Marine survived a pulsating encounter with King Billy, winning 4-2. Liam Mallam scored twice as the Premier Division side booked their place in the quarter finals.
Cwm Talwg were forced to come from behind against Tadross but eventually avoided another cup upset, winning 3-1. Cole Roberts scored twice to send Talwg through.
In the Premier Division, Cadoxton Imps climbed back to second place with a 3-0 victory away at Penarth Town.
The Imps secured their first league win in four matches with two late goals to seal the points, while Penarth’s difficult run continued with a third consecutive league game without victory.
There was a huge win in the Championship as Llantwit Major Thirds demolished Vale United Reserves 9-0.
After going four games without a victory, Llantwit responded in spectacular fashion, with Jac Wisenden completing a hat-trick.
Cogan Coronation Reserves rescued a point against Dinas Powys Reserves with a late equaliser from Dan Humphries, earning a 1-1 draw.
Cardiff Airport Vets remain top of League One with a 100 per cent record after Josh Bell struck a late winner to secure a 1-0 victory over Rhoose Social Reserves.
Cowbridge Town also maintained their perfect start, beating Vale of Glamorgan Rovers 4-1 to move into third place.
