ON Saturday, 8 March, people in Bridgend and the Vale watched as three huge pressure vessels, manufactured by Vessco in Bridgend, were transported along the A48 to Barry Docks.
As well as onlookers, it was a magnet for photographers, and much of their attention was on the narrow main street through Cowbridge. The huge vessels could not be taken along Cowbridge by pass, so the town centre was the only option.

Allelys Heavy Haulage Ltd were in charge of the transportation of three vessels, assisted by South Wales Police. Each vessel measured around 21′ high, 17′, 87′ long and weighed around 100 tons.
The need to go through Cowbridge meant that the bridge over the River Thaw – not a particularly big bridge – needed to be reinforced by a temporary structure which was dismantled after the heavy loads had passed through.
