How will Vale Council services be affected next week?

VALE OF GLAMORGAN: Waste collection will be pushed back by a day in The Vale as council services look set to temporarily grind to a halt next week.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council said it will be closed on Monday, 19th September, which will be a bank holiday to mark the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Here is a look at how Vale’s Council’s services will be affected next week.

Vale of Glamorgan:

Waste collection 

Recycling and waste collection will be suspended on the day and pushed back by one day for the rest of the week.

The council is advising members of the public to place their recycling and waste out one day after their scheduled collection dates.

Bulky waste collections will also be pushed back by one day. The council said that they will aim to complete all bulky waste collections by the end of the day on Friday 23 September.

Council buildings and parks

All Council office buildings, libraries and adult learning centres will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday. Penarth Pier Café will also be closed on this date.

The council said that Court Road car park will also be closed. However, parking will be available on Wyndham Street.

All leisure centres in the Vale of Glamorgan will be closed on Monday.

Public toilets and parks will be open next Monday, according to the Vale of Glamorgan website. However, toilets and bins will not be cleaned on this day.

Education and transport 

Schools in the Vale of Glamorgan will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday and so no school transport will run on this date.

The Vale Council has also released information on bus routes servicing the county which are not run by them.

There will be no service provision next Monday for Adventure Travel services 88, 89A, 89B, 320, 321 or B3. Service 905 will run in line with TfW Rail service provision serving Rhoose (Cardiff Airport) Station.

Cardiff Bus services 7, 92B, 93, 93S, 97, 97A, 98, 99 will not run on the bank holiday. However, there will be a bank holiday service provision for the First Cymru service X2.

Leisure centres, libraries and recycling centres also look set to close in Cardiff next week for The Queen’s funeral.

Many of Cardiff Council’s services, including its main contact centre, C2C, will be unavailable on Bank Holiday Monday, 19th September, as the country gets set to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Here is a look at how council services across Cardiff will be affected during the week:

Public buildings and other venues

All Better leisure centres, children’s centres, venues and spas will be closed next Monday.

Normal service will resume on Tuesday September 20.

All Better-run leisure centres in Cardiff include Active Eastern Leisure Centre​​​​​​​​, ​Fairwater Leisure Centre​​​​​​​​, Llanishen Leisure Centre​​​​​​, ​Penylan Leisure Centre​​​​​​​​​​​​​, Pentwyn Leisure Centre, ​​​​​​​Western Leisure Centre​​​​, ​Channel View Centre (CF11)​​​​​​, Maindy Centre​​​​​​​​ and STAR Hub​​​​​​​.

Other public buildings, including the Museum of Cardiff, City Hall, Bute Park Visitor Centre, Cardiff Market, all hubs and libraries and Llanover Arts Centre will also be closed on Monday.

St David’s Hall will be open as usual.

Waste collection and recycling

Waste collection in Cardiff will run as normal next week, as collection days now run from Tuesday to Friday.

The council said that recycling centres will be closed on Monday. This includes the trade waste centre and weighbridge service.

Education and social services

Schools across Cardiff will close on Monday and reopen as usual on Tuesday September 20.

Telecare and Meals on Wheels will be running as normal.

Bereavement services and registry office

All funerals that have already been arranged will go ahead as planned.

Mourners are advised to contact their funeral director or contact Cardiff Bereavement services​ for further details.

All council offices will remain closed. However, all cemetery sites, gardens of remembrance and book of remembrance rooms will be open as normal​​​ and will close at 4pm.

The Registry office will be open for pre-booked appointments only.​
