Appeal for witnesses of serious assault to come forward

South Wales Police (SWP) is continuing to investigate an allegation of serious sexual assault in Cardiff city centre that occurred one month ago and is anxious to identify four potential witnesses.

A 24-year-old man from Llanrumney named by SWP as Liam David Stimpson has been arrested and charged with four violent offences against the victim, including rape and grievous bodily harm, and is remanded in custody.

Police are now urgently appealing for the public’s help in identifying four possible witnesses seen on CCTV footage retrieved during SWP investigations.

Police detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident that occurred in St Mary Street during the early hours of Wednesday 27th December.

Detective Inspector Kath Barry from SWP said: “We [are] appealing to these four individuals in the CCTV, or anyone who may know their identity to please contact South Wales Police, so that we can speak to them.

“I will stress they have done nothing wrong, they are potential witnesses, and may have important information that could assist our investigation.

“We need to speak with them about what they may have seen while in the vicinity of St Mary Street and Callaghan Square during the early hours of Wednesday, December 27.

“I would like to thank the community for the excellent support they have provided to this investigation to date, which has helped enormously.”

A key witness came forward following an earlier appeal for information last month.

Anyone with any information regarding the four potential witnesses is asked to please contact SWP, quoting ref. 2300438257.
