A BARRY paperboy, Harley Nixon-Phillips, has been honoured with a ‘Special Hero’ award after saving the life of a local pensioner.
Harley (15) was originally nominated by store owner Jackie Wells of One Stop – Selleys in Barry for Employee of the Year at the 2024 Fed Awards. Harley had saved the life of a pensioner who had not retrieved his papers from his letterbox. In one of his last acts as national president of the Fed, Muntazir Dipoti agreed a Special Hero award was the best way to acknowledge Harley’s action.

He was presented with the award by Muntazir Dipoti. It was the last award of the night and received a standing ovation from the 400-plus crowd. The ceremony was hosted by impressionist, comedian and satirist Rory Bremner at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on 18 June. The Fed (Federation of Independent Retailers) is a not-for-profit organisation with more than 10,000 members throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Harley said: “I am absolutely buzzing, it’s wicked and it is a national event. It is a once in a lifetime moment.”
