Wick Village Show attracts 200 entries
THE village of Wick held its 53rd annual open Village Show on Saturday, 31st August on what turned out to be a nice sunny day.
In total there were 200 entries in categories including vegetables, flowers, home baking, preserves and children’s crafts.

As in previous years entries were welcomed from around the Vale. Amazingly, given our lack of a proper summer, a good selection of flowers were on display although vegetable entries were down a little on previous years. Home baking was very well represented with some amazing cakes and biscuits. The children’s section also had some impressive entries this year. The four judges were impressed with the standard of entries for a village show and noted the importance of such events to the community.
The 2024 trophy winners were:
- Best in Vegetables – Tim Prior
- Best Mini Collection of Vegetables – Stephen Cotter
- Best in Fruit – Cullen and Lochie Llewellyn Thomas
- Best in Flowers – Bridget Boardman
- Best Floral Arrangement – Louise Edwards
- Best in Home Baking – Louise Edwards
- Best Children’s Exhibit – Willow Norris
- Best in Show – Louise Edwards.
The ‘Guess the Weight of the Marrow’ competition was won by Evan Clayfield. Congratulations to them and to all the other prize winners!
Wick Horticultural Society dedicated its new cup for ‘Best Exhibit in Flowers’ to Mr Ron Ayers, who served the society for many years. Mike Rhodes, chair of Wick Horticultural Society, said: “I am very thankful to all the volunteers who helped out with the show this year and to all those who entered exhibits.
“I would also like to thank the judges for their thorough and considered deliberations. The show continues to be well supported by the local community and we look forward to hosting the next Village Show on Saturday, 1st September 2025”.
