Royal British Legion launches Poppy Appeal

The Bridgend branch of the Royal British Legion crossed the border into the Vale for the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal on a rainy Saturday morning, August 21st, with a clay pigeon shooting competition at Dragon Clay in Ewenny.

Given the weather conditions, competitors were grateful that the Vale of Glamorgan legion had bought along its tent. The event, which was attended by the Mayor of Bridgend Town Council, Cllr Steven Bletsoe and his consort Freya Sykes Bletsoe, attracted more than 60 competitors from across Wales.

The heavy rain throughout the morning did not dampen the atmosphere. The branch secretary, Mr Alistair McFetrich, said he was overwhelmed by the support the event had attracted, even with the adverse weather.

A branch spokesman said: “We would like to thank Phil and Tina Jones of Dragon Clay, Peter Woods & Sons Butchers, The Rhiw Tea Pot Cafe, Taste of Thailand Bridgend, Easterbrooks Body, Bath and Home and the Huna Bar, Elder Lane, for their support and sponsorship.”
