IN early 2020, Richard built his first recycling storage bench during lockdown.
“First test, Mrs Pike!” he recalls. Thankfully, it passed with glowing approval. Encouraged, he showed it to his neighbour, who loved it and immediately requested one.
Orders soon snowballed, and today Richard supplies recycling storage solutions across Wales. Now, with his brand-new showroom at Unit 17b, Woodham Road, Barry, he’s more excited than ever to showcase his designs in person.
Asked about his inspiration, he explains: “Recycling is vital, but managing the bags is a nightmare. I first thought of a plastic box, but as a larger gentleman, I needed something stronger—so I created a wooden container that doubles as garden seating.”
His breakthrough came when he realised that simply hiding the bags inside a box was not enough. He said: “I needed a design where you lift the lid, drop in the recycling, and you’re done!”
As a dog owner, Richard also solved another issue: no more scattered waste from dogs or seagulls. Plus, the bins stay secure in stormy weather.
“It’s been quite a journey,” Richard says, “and with our new showroom, we’re just getting started!”
