Domestic abuser jailed for 20 months
A 30-YEAR-OLD man from Barry who subjected his girlfriend to a sustained campaign of domestic abuse has been jailed for 20 months and given a 10-year restraining order.
Newport Crown Court heard how Jordan Isaacs, who had a £200 per month cocaine habit, strangled and assaulted the woman in her own home, and went on to stalk her after being released on bail with the condition that he did not contact her.
Isaacs, who has a previous conviction for domestic violence against the victim, then called her 150 times from a withheld number over a period of a month and left 27 voice messages, some of which contained threats. He also left beer bottles on her doorstep.
Last October, Isaacs came to the victim’s home while drunk and shut a door on her, which gave her injuries to her left arm and foot. Isaacs then placed his hands around her neck and started strangling her.
The attack took place while their children were in the house, and he verbally abused the victim by calling her a “s*** mum”.
The court heard that Isaacs was earning £2,500 per month but was spending £200 each week on cocaine.
Isaacs, now of Fields Park Road, Pontcanna, Cardiff, was remanded in custody following his second arrest in November, and appearing in court, he pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stalking.
Barrister Tom Roberts, representing Isaacs, told the court in mitigation: “He has taken significant steps towards addressing his offending. He said he needs to sort himself out.”
Judge Eugene Egan told Mr Roberts: “He was spending £200 a week on cocaine. That’s staggering. He’s a family man.
“He was making £2,500 a month and spending around a quarter of it on a class A drug. That’s shocking.”
The judge then told Isaacs he had “bullied and humiliated” his former girlfriend.
In an emotional victim impact statement delivered to the court, she said: “He left me with so much anxiety that I couldn’t sleep much.
“I thought, this is my life now. I was terrified 24/7. He’s left me with so much self-hatred.”
