The tournament at The Ravenala Attitude Hotel in Balaclava featured leading players without professional status, and Davies, 24, was one of two Welsh representatives alongside former world number eight Darren Morgan.

In the last 16, Davies lost the opening frame against Jaden Ong Jia Jun from Singapore but he won each of the following three frames on the black to come through a 3-1 winner.

Davies’s quarter-final opponent was Vallance, who won the Scottish Amateur Championship in 2017.

Vallance dominated the opening frame, and the players won alternate frames until the scores were level at 2-2 to force a decider, where Davies was denied victory on the black.

The tournament was won by former professional Michael Georgiou, who completed a 3-0 whitewash over Vallance in the final.

On Thursday, Davies will take part in the professional tour’s season opener BetVictor Championship League at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester as a top-up player.

Davies is in a four-man round robin group alongside fellow Welshman Jak Jones, who finished runner-up in the World Championship at the Crucible last year, plus 2022 European under 21 champion Ben Mertens from Belgium and 2023 Pan American champion Jonas Luz from Brazil.

The player who finishes top of the group will progress to Stage 2 of the competition later this month.
