CARDIFF Airport returned to action with a league cup tie at Jenner Park against South East League rivals Caldicot Town.
After an even opening 30 minutes, Sonny Lambert combined with young striker Ryan Escott with the latter finishing well with two goals in as many minutes.
However, any hopes of taking control of the match were quickly dashed as the visitors’ striker Donoghue completed his own brace with a penalty and a close range header to level the scores at half time.
Chances were at a premium in the second half before Caldicot forward Greenhaf beat the offside trap to then finish superbly with the clock running down.
Any hopes of a Cardiff Airport comeback ended when Donoghue completed his hat-trick to clinch a 4-2 victory for the visitors.
Taffs Well
It was back to league action for Cardiff Airport with a Friday evening visit to the Jamie Burley stadium to take on Taffs Well. An impressive first half performance saw Airport score two first half goals in as many minutes again.
This time a superb move saw Ryan Escott put through with the young striker unselfishly playing in Ollie Amos to sweep home. A flick on from Amos then set free Alfie Tipples who slotted home the second.
The Wellmen were grateful for half time to get some respite.
The second half turned into a different affair, however. Within four minutes the home side cleared a corner and counter-attacked effectively with a lucky deflection sending winger Green through and he finished well to half the deficit.
Just after the hour, a challenge by Alex Watkins was deemed a foul by the referee with Jordan converting the penalty.
More disappointment was to follow for Airport with captain Theo Richards seeing red for a late challenge. As frustration set in a further red card followed for Alfie Tipples.
Airport managed to hold on for a point and nearly snatched the win with a last ditch attack,
when Aiden Lewis was foiled at the far post by a last-ditch challenge. Lewis then received a second yellow card after the final whistle to add to the disappointment.
