Sport: Barry reschedule game to avoid fixture clash

BARRY RFC continue their pre-season build-up with a match against Aberavon Green Stars at the Reservoir Field on Saturday, the fixture against visiting Division 2 West Central opponents kicking off at 12.30pm.

The lunchtime start avoids a clash with Wales’ final pre-World Cup warm-up match against current world champions South Africa in Cardiff, the televised game at the Principality Stadium kicking off at 3.15pm.

Barry’s Division One East Central campaign starts at promoted Abercwmboi on 2nd September but with Dinas Powys having been relegated at the end of last season after failing to fulfil fixtures, the 11-team division means bye weeks. Barry have no league matches on 9th September and 16th December, the club filling the first gap by arranging a visit to Cardiff Met.

Barry are scheduled visit Cambrian Welfare in the league on 16th September and again a week later in the Division One Cup. The club has asked if the fixture of 16th September can count for both competitions, which the WRU is currently reluctant to sanction.

The Bombers have no home league fixture in September. They visit Rhydyfelin on 30th September and are home for the first time on 14th October when Porth Harlequins are the visitors to the Reservoir Field.

But John Dimond’s new-look Youth team have a home fixture against St Albans on 16th September. They are away to St Peter’s on 9th September and to Rumney on 23rd September.
