MEMBERS of Soroptimist International Barry and District were thrilled with their fundraising efforts for Velindre Cancer Hospital over the year.
Recently, Dr Emma Hudson, a gynaecological cancer consultant at Velindre, was given a cheque for £3,800. An appreciative Dr Hudson explained how the cash used would fund important clinical research, as well as helping to pay for specialist nurses, patient wigs and a family room at Velindre.
The local Soroptimists have made knitted and crocheted chicks filled with creme eggs for over 20 years. This year, bunnies also were introduced to the range. Local primary schools, various retail outlets, libraries, opticians, chemists have kindly displayed, sold and accepted donations for these popular Easter gifts.
Club president Jeni Gower-Jones thanked members and friends involved in the club’s annual programme action project.
