BARRY Town Council has announced that it is delighted to support Gwyl Fach y Fro and is the event’s main sponsor this year.
The free event, which is organised by Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg, will take place on Barry Island this Saturday.
Gwyl Fach y Fro is celebrating 10 years in 2025, and over the last decade has become one of the largest annual festivals in the Vale, with over 8,000 attendees in 2024. Celebrating Welsh culture and music, Gwyl Fach y Fro hosts performances from schools across the Vale, as well as welcoming some of the best music acts from the Welsh scene to Barry.
Attendees can also look forward to delicious street food, Welsh crafters and a drink or two at the on-site bar.
A Barry Town council spokesperson said: “One of the council’s goals is to ensure that the town has a vibrant culture and thriving Welsh language. The council hosts a range of events throughout the year and provides grant funding support to events in the town.”

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Leader of the Council and chair of the Vibrant Culture Committee commented: “I am pleased that Barry Town Council is supporting Gwyl Fach y Fro this year. This is a key event in our town’s annual calendar, celebrating all things Welsh and bringing more visitors to Barry Island. Thanks to support from the Council and other partners, it remains free to attend.”

Gwyl Fach y Fro takes place, 11am to 8pm on Saturday, 17th May on Barry Island.
