TWO Vale Council members, Cllr Emma Goodjohn and Cllr Carys Stallard, are walking the length of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast footpath this month to draw attention to the beautiful stretch of coastline and to raise money for the RNLI and National Coastwatch.
As chairs of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Committee, the two councillors share the responsibility for convening key partners twice a year to discuss issues that impact on the area.
Both enjoy that responsibility and are equally passionate about the leisure opportunities offered by this stunning section of Wales’ coastline, its history and its wildlife.
Next year, the area will have had Heritage Coast status for half a century and the pair hope that their charity walk will encourage more people to get out and see what the coast has to offer.
Cllr Stallard said: “Having Heritage Coast status is important because it recognises that our coastline from Aberthaw to Porthcawl is really special. The council is working with the people who make a living along the coast to look after its biodiversity and its beauty. We want as many people as possible to visit and hopefully our walk will raise awareness of just how much there is to see and do on this spectacular stretch of coastline.”
Cllr Goodjohn said: “The RNLI and National Coastwatch do so much to keep people safe when they’re in or near the sea, with help from dedicated volunteers. We want to highlight the vital work that they do and raise some funds for them too.”
Carys and Emma will be taking on the walk in three stages on 16th, 17th and 18th September.
