Cowbridge welcomes car enthusiasts to town

Cowbridge was packed recently with treasured cars of all ages and styles.

Now in its sixth year, the Cowbridge Cars and Coffee Sunday has continued to grow from a simple concept, an invitation to car owners to show off their vehicle and wander around the town and mingle with other enthusiasts.

No fee to take part, and a free mug and coffee on arrival.

The idea was the brainchild of Julian Hitchcock of the Bear Hotel and Simon Leadbitter of Simon’s Cycles. According to Mr Hitchcock, it came about after a pint or two of cider.

The Bear Hotel welcomes the car owners with a free coffee, and they received a free commemorative mug. A total of 560 cups were given out, which gives an idea of how many car owners turned up, although Simon Leadbitter told the Glamorgan Star that some just turned up on the day without registering.

Simon added: “Without Julian’s partnership and support, the event could not take place – not forgetting the Bear staff too.

“We are also supported by photographers Mike Baker and Glyn Evans, and Bespoke Classic Car Storage who donated the mugs.

“The event is very much a collaborative effort.”
