Dinas Powys celebrates Fairtrade fortnight

SCHOOLS, churches and community groups across Dinas Powys have been celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight.

At St Andrews Major C/W primary, children in year-1 and year- 5 presented a compelling case through coursework, presentations and song to a packed room of parents on the importance on making the ethical choice of buying Fairtrade.

At Dinas Powys Primary, year-3 children sang at a Fairtrade coffee afternoon. At St Joseph’s RC school, parents enjoyed a Fairtrade cuppa whilst viewing the whole school exhibition of ‘Care for Creation’, considering the impact of climate change, pollution and our shopping habits.

Both Bethesda chapel and Dinas Powys Baptist Church had fun, tasting Fairtrade chocolate and bananas and sampling Fairtrade tea.

Dinas Powys Library and Activity Centre created a huge poster display for the fortnight, featuring shops and cafes in the village where Fairtrade can be found. The local Fairtrade group provided a hamper full of tempting products for a raffle which raised funds for the library.
