New school for Cowbridge give pupils a first look
PUPILS from Ysgol Gymraeg Iolo Morganwg in Cowbridge have left their mark on their new school at a ‘steel signing’ event.
It celebrated the completion of the new school’s steel frame and more than 30 year-6 pupils and staff from the existing school visited the site where they signed their names and added painted handprints to the frame.

The school aims to expand Welsh-medium educational provision in the area, doubling the current pupil capacity from 210 to 420 places. It will feature flexible and accessible learning spaces, as well as providing a valuable resource for the Cowbridge and the surrounding communities.
Ian Rees, regional director for Kier Construction Western & Wales, said:“Engaging with the pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg Iolo Morganwg has been a priority for us from the outset, and we have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming them to the site.
“The steel signing event provided another fantastic opportunity to celebrate an important milestone with them and, hopefully, inspire some of the pupils to consider a career in construction.”
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, the Vale Council cabinet member for Education, the Arts and the Welsh Language, said:“It was wonderful to see pupils playing such a memorable part in the development of their new school.
“Giving pupils the opportunity to visit the site, learn about the construction process and leave their own mark on the building helps create a real sense of connection with their new school.”
