Man arrested and released on bail over double murders of couple in 1993
Harry and Megan Tooze, both in their 60s, were murdered at their Welsh farmhouse in Llanharry.
An 86-year-old man has been arrested and subsequently bailed in connection with the murders of a couple more than 30 years ago.
Harry and Megan Tooze were shot and killed at their rural home at Ty Ar y Waun farmhouse, Llanharry on 26th July 1993 and their bodies later found hidden under hay bales in a cowshed.
On anniversary of their deaths in 2023 a forensic review was launched of the case and detectives have now made an arrest for the undetected murders of 64-year-old Harry and 67-year-old Megan.
A SWP spokesperson has confirmed that the man was arrested on17th December, and is currently on police bail.
On the morning of Monday 26th July 1993, Harry and Megan left their isolated farm house and drove their Land Rover to Tesco in nearby Talbot Green to do their weekly food shop before stopping to collect their pensions in Llanharry on the way home. They were seen arriving back home at 11am.
At around 1.30pm, two gun shots were heard by neighbours but this was not considered unusual being on a farm.
Police were called when a regular phone call from their daughter went unanswered. Officers attended the farm and discovered Harry and Megan’s bodies in a cow shed adjoining the farmhouse.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Mark Lewis, said: “While this arrest is clearly a significant development in the investigation, our enquiries are very much ongoing.
“This case has affected many people over the years and our aim is to find the answers to the unanswered questions which remain about their deaths over 30 years on. Even with this passage of time I appeal to anyone who has any information about the murders to come forward and speak to police.”
Anyone with information about the deaths of Harry and Megan Tooze should contact SWP quoting occurrence number 2300016841.
