Barry woman stole chocolate and protein bars

A 33-YEAR-OLD woman from Barry has been jailed for four months after she admitted stealing more than £1,200 worth of goods during a series of shoplifting offences.

Holly Cotter appeared before Cardiff Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the nine theft offences at an earlier hearing.

The court heard that Cotter committed the first of the offences on 4 June when she stole dog treats costing £168.98 from Pets at Home.

On 28 June, Cotter took £116.16 worth of protein bars from a Morrisons petrol station, and she returned to the shop on 6 July where she stole more of the bars with a total value of £116.66.

Cotter committed a third theft at the Morrisons petrol station on 11 July, where she stole protein bars costing a total of £350.

On 16 July, Cotter went to Home Bargains and took chocolate bars worth £36.75. Cotter stole more chocolate bars, this time worth £50, from a Tesco Express on 10 August.

Further dog food and treats valued at £65.68 were stolen by Cotter from Pets at Home on 27 August, and she took confectionary costing £133.50 from Tesco Express four days later.

The last of the nine offences saw Cotter steal confectionary worth £177.65 from a One Stop shop on 12 September.

The total value of the stolen goods was £1,215.38.

Judge Vanessa Francis handed Cotter a prison term of four months.

In July, the same judge gave Cotter a 21-month jail term, suspended for 24 months, after she admitted being involved in the supply of cocaine.

Later the same month, Cotter was back in court, where she received a 10-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months after she admitted a series of shoplifting offences committed between January and May, where the value of the stolen goods totalled £843.94, but she avoided an immediate custodial term on that occasion because the court considered there to be a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.
