Mayor’s crafts market kicks off festive season

THE Barry Town Council Mayor, Cllr Ian Johnson, has thanked everybody who attended his Christmas Crafts Market at the end of November.

The event was at the Cemetery Approach Community Centre, next to Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery, with 10 stall-holders and a range of crafts. Profits made from the event and refreshments went to the Mayor’s Charities, 2Wish and Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Cllr Johnson, said: “It was a lovely start to the Christmas festivities with a wide range of different crafts on display. My personal favourite was a cushion, illustrated with llamas, that was created by Alona, a Ukrainian refugee living in Cardiff.

“After the event, we took her to visit the grave of Gareth Jones, a Barry-born journalist who is well known in Ukraine because of his reporting of famine there in the 1930s.”
