Meet Mollie – the trainee therapy dog

It’s a long process, lasting almost a year, and she will be starting her training with Cowbridge Therapy next month with the help of Mutz N Strutz based at Pant Wilkin Stables.

Sarah-Jane Marshall of Cowbridge Therapy believes that the company has a number of clients, especially children and teenagers, who may benefit from spending time with Mollie.

Sarah-Jane said: “Mollie will hopefully pass all the exams and be fully registered as an animal assistant therapy dog by next August, where she will continue to help the company visit schools and help individuals.

”There are specific exams – or tests – that Mollie will have to pass, in much the same way as guide dogs for the blind have to prove their temperament and behaviour.

Sara-Jane added: “Animal assisted therapy greatly improves treatment outcomes for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric clients in a surprisingly broad range of areas, including reducing stress and anxiety and lowering blood pressure; reducing symptoms of depression and loneliness; enhancing mindfulness and attachment; and lessening the effects of trauma and PTSD.

Mollie is about to start a training programme to become a therapy dog.
