Barry Island 10k is back this Sunday

THE fifth edition of the Barry Island 10K is back this Sunday (15th June) after a break last year.
It’s the biggest event yet with more than 4,300 runners set to take on the challenging but scenic course along a route devised by double Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace. The main race gets underway at 10am.
Other events include the ‘50m Toddler Dash’ for children aged three and under (12.15pm), followed by a race for ‘Future Challengers’ at 12.30pm – a competitive one-mile race for competitive young athletes. The event then finishes with a family fun run at 1pm.
The route takes runners from the promenade through Barry Waterfront before reaching the Barry Docks Offices building. After tackling the race’s only significant climb on Subway Road, runners will go down Broad Street and head into Romilly Park. Next, they head to The Knap and turn back towards Barry Island.

Cancer Research Wales is this year’s lead charity while many runners will be fundraising for their own good cause.
Near the finish will be the race village, where there will be entertainment, a photo wall for post-race selfies, deckchairs, a selection of street food and a number of retailers and exhibitors.
A number of official car parks will be in operation for the Barry Island 10K, with park and walk or park and ride options available. These must be pre-booked online ahead of event day. For more information or to book a space, visit www.barryisland.co.uk/travel-parking/
