THE opening minutes saw Pencoed waste no time getting on the scoresheet with No.8 Ashley Bissett breaking to send Jordan Bissett racing over.
Pyle levelled minutes after 13 minutes with prop forward Daniel Forrester crossing wide out. Pencoed returned to the attack and a driving maul saw skipper Zach Taylor go over. Once again, Pyle drew level with a try from flanker John Bolton.
The home side then picked up a yellow card and Pencoed capitalised with a second try from Taylor, with Adam Williams adding the extras. Further pressure from Pencoed brought them a penalty try to lead 10–24, with a try bonus point in the bag. With the interval approaching, Pencoed increased their lead, with centre Llyr Harries splitting the home midfield before timing his pass to put wing Dafydd Williams over wide out. Williams added a fine conversion to lead 10-31 at the interval.

Despite missing several of their more experienced players, the young Pencoed side were playing some attractive rugby and opened the second half with a brilliant run from inside his own half from Sion Clarke who, after beating man after man, sent out a long pass to Taylor in the left wing position. Several swift inside passes saw supporting flanker Jamie Burton go over.
Pyle came back with a try from centre Matthew Lloyd. The home side were far from finished, scoring a further two tries in a matter of minutes, the first from John Fulton securing a well-deserved bonus point, then a penalty try brought the scoreline to 27-36 and, with Pencoed having picked up a yellow, it was far from over with seven minutes left.

Then Clarke, who was later chosen Pencoed player of the match, sealed matters by beating a host of defenders to score a superb try. Clarke was again the inspiration for Pencoed’s final try, sending wing Llewellyn Gibbons over for a 27-46 victory.
