PRIOR to kick off, a minute’s silence was held in remembrance of former player Jonathan Thomas and former committee member Alwyn Morgan.
The opening minutes saw Pencoed first on the scoreboard when, following a driving maul, second row Lewis Bowen got the touchdown, Rhys Clarke converting. The home side soon got a second from scrum half Cai Harries, Clarke converting.

A counter-attack from Mumbles opened their account, Max Boxki showing good strength to score wide out. Pencoed then got their third try, switching play around the halfway line and spreading the ball wide to full back Iwan Powell, who showed his running skills to score a fine try, Clarke converted and Pencoed led 21-5 after 30. minutes.
Then, following a solid home scrum, skipper Tom Geere crossed for the bonus point try, Clarke converting to lead 28-5 at the break.

Mumbles opened the second half with a converted try from Wil Evans following a driving maul. A number of half-time changes from the visitors brought them parity at the set piece and, following a period of pressure, Evans got a second try, the conversion bringing them to within nine points at 28-19.
Pencoed once again stretched their lead, pressure on the visitors’ line allowed replacement scrum half Brandon Mullen to put Clarke over with a fine long pass, Clarke converted. Mumbles were not finished however, and Boxki got their bonus point try to reduce the deficit with seven minutes of normal time remaining.

Pencoed then proceeded to close matters out with a typically determined try from Geere, Jack Bevan converting for a final scoreline of 42-24. Man of Match was flanker Jake Hall.
On Saturday, Pencoed travel to Abergavenny in the WRU Cup.
