Victoria Taylor, 30, of Barry, was handed the CBO by Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, who heard it was necessary to protect the community, local workers and members of the public from continued distress, disruption and harm.
Taylor was recently jailed for 16 weeks after she admitted three offences of shoplifting.
On 31st January, Taylor stole food worth £131.50 from the One Stop shop on Plas Cleddau, Barry.
Two days later, she returned to the store where she took food worth £40.70, and the same day she stole £32.97 of produce from the Co-Op on Colcot Road, Barry.
The court was told Taylor had a lengthy track record of targeting shops in Barry and Penarth. In addition to her prison sentence, Taylor was ordered to pay compensation of £172.20 to One Stop and £32.97 to the Co-Op.
Shopworkers have described Taylor as being aggressive and threatening when challenged, and her actions also caused considerable financial losses.
As part of the CBO, Taylor is banned from all Tesco stores in Barry and Penarth, any One Stop shop in Barry, the Asda in Barry, the Home Bargains on Palmerston Road, and the Co-Op on Colcot Road.
The order instructs Taylor not to display any disorderly, threatening or abusive behaviour within any retail shops in Barry and Penarth, and she must also leave when told to do so.
PC Adrian Muscat, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator at South Wales Police, said: “South Wales Police work closely with retailers and businesses to protect them from crime and anti-social behaviour committed by individuals like Victoria Taylor.
“Taylor’s behaviour has caused persistent and continuous harassment and distress to the communities of Barry and Penarth.”
