Best-ever result for Rhoose Nippers
RHOOSE Nippers team recently took to the side of Cardiff pool to compete at the British Stillwater Championships.
Day one started on a high with Tommy Davies-Green becoming British Champion in the under-11 50m Flipper race. It was then on to the manikin race which saw Tommy take silver in the under-11s, Leon Pound silver in the under-13s and Mabli Gordon a bronze in the under-13s. The boys’ team of Steffan Phillips, Leon Pound, Ollie Butwell and Harry Nicholas took bronze in the manikin relay.
It was then over to the tube rescue event and Rhoose were hoping to continue their success in this race. In the under-11s, the ‘dream team’ of Noah Bartram and Tommy Davies-Green took silver, with team mates Leon Pound and Ollie Butwell taking silver in the under-13s. Leon Pound, Ollie Butwell, Harry Nicholas and Tommy Davies-Green all put in some amazing performances in the boys’ medley relay to take silver.
It was then over to the board races, something Rhoose had been working hard on to improve. It clearly paid off with Mabli Gordon becoming British Champion in the under-13s. The final event of the day was board rescue, one of Rhoose’s favourites. In the under-11s, Tommy Davies-Green and Noah Bartram came together again to take silver, while in the under-13s Ollie Butwell and Leon Pound took bronze, with Ruby Lloyd and Mabli Gordon defending their title of British Champions in the under-13s. Day one saw many PBs and improved performances, putting Rhoose in a strong position going into Day two.

On day two it was over to the younger team comprised of 8-, 9- and 10-year-olds. In the under-9s, Ethan Gordon became double British Champion in the 50m Flipper and Manikin race. Ben Davies-Green, following in his brother’s footsteps, took a silver in the under-8s Manikin race. The last medal of the competition went to Mimi Williams and Olivia Powell, who took an amazing second place in the under-8s board rescue!

The coaches would like to say a massive well done to everyone who competed, especially those who raced for the first time. Once again, every Nipper did themselves and the club proud. Rhoose finished in fourth place out of 29clubs – the best result we have ever had as a club. They were the only club from Wales to make the top 10! It was an amazing achievement, mixing it up with some of England’s best teams! It is now time to hit the beach once again ready for the summer season to commence!
