The RSPCA encourages young people to enter photo competition
There is just one week left to enter the RSPCA’s Young Photographer Awards and the charity is urging budding photographers to submit their entries before the fast-approaching 13th August deadline.
Last year, more than 4,000 children and young people with a passion for photography, animals and nature entered the competition which has been running for over 30 years. Now budding photographers aged 18 years and under are being asked to submit their photos capturing the animal kingdom on a camera or mobile device.
Andrew Forsyth, RSPCA photographer and competition judge, said: “So far we’ve seen a massive increase in submissions from this time last year but we know there are still lots of talented young people out there who are yet to enter their photos into the competition. We’d urge them to get their photos in over the next week to be in with a chance of winning some incredible prizes and their talent to be in the spotlight.
“Not only do finalists get the opportunity to visit the Tower of London for the day where the ceremony takes place, but winners, runners-up and commended entries also receive certificates and trophies. And the overall winner will be awarded a fantastic wildlife photography experience worth over £600.”

This year’s awards will be judged by a panel of experts in wildlife photography including Ellie Rothnie, award-winning photographer and photographic guide, former competition winner-turned-professional photographer Catriona Parfitt; professional wildlife photographers and RSPCA photographers Andrew Forsyth and Emma Jacobs – and new to the judging panel this year, Danny Green, world-class professional wildlife photographer and founder of wildlife photography holiday company Natures Images. Natures Images are one of the sponsors of the competition and offer the sought-after workshop prize meaning the lucky winner will work alongside Danny to get some incredible nature photography.
Danny said: “I am really looking forward to seeing the images entered in this year’s competition. What are the key ingredients to capture a judges eye? It needs to be striking and dramatic but above all originality is the key!”
Other sponsors of the competition include Camtraptions (camera traps for wildlife photography) and MBA (who print the awards’ brochures).
Winners in each category will be awarded trophies and a selection of prizes at a ceremony at the Tower of London in December.
