Sea Sunday service on the Waterfront will remember Barry seafarers
This Sunday, Barry will observe Sea Sunday – a day to honour and remember seafarers.
The day is organised jointly by the Barry branch of the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) and St Mary’s Church, Barry. Starting at 2pm, the service will be officiated by Father Chris Seaton of St Mary’s. The Service is at the Seafarer’s Memorial (The Anchor) on Barry Waterfront.

On behalf of the organisers, Keith Greenway said: “Barry is noted as being a former Merchant Navy Town, once described by seamen as the ‘Gateway to the World’.
“On Sea Sunday, churches across the world come together to pray for seafarers’ everywhere and for their families. Many recall the numbers of casualties the Merchant Navy suffered during conflicts and many were from or sailed from Barry.
“Relatives, loved ones and members of the public and all organisations are welcome. Sacrifices of the Merchant Navy will be remembered further on Merchant Navy Day, 3rd September at the Merchant Navy Monument in the town.”
