A UNIVERSITY student from Sully says she is delighted to have reached the finals of Miss Wales.
Xantia Hobrough (19) applied to become a contestant last year after being inspired by previous winners’ social media posts showing them helping to raise money for charities.
Studying veterinary medicine at Bristol University, Xantia is hoping the five-year course will lead to a successful career as a Veterinary Surgeon.
Speaking with the Glamorgan Star, Xantia said: “I applied to become a Miss Wales 2025 Finalist in late Autumn 2023, after an interview and selection process I was delighted to be selected.
“The Miss Wales social media inspired me to apply as it showed me the honourable work contestants and Miss Wales winners do to help raise money for respectable charities such as Beauty With A Purpose and A-Sisterhood, and also the work they do to empower young girls showing them that they truly can achieve anything and make a difference to society.
“My true passion in life is helping animals. I completed six weeks of voluntary work in a cheetah sanctuary and a four-week internship with a marine conservation organisation, both in South Africa, which were rewarding and interesting.”
Xantia is a former British blackbelt champion in Taekwondo, a British record breaker and former member of team Wales in surf lifesaving and is an avid gym goer. She obtained first aid skills from the sport of surf lifesaving which helped her to save a man at sea when she was 17 years old.
As part of her Miss Wales journey, Xantia is raising money for Beauty With A Purpose (BWP) – a global humanitarian charity, and A-Sisterhood – a charity which protects, supports and empowers women worldwide.
Xantia said: “I recently held a bake sale on International Day of the Girl to raise money for A-Sisterhood and will be completing a half marathon in April 2025 to raise money for Beauty With A Purpose. Both charities are close to my heart for the honourable work they do.”
BWP supports important humanitarian charity causes across the world for example educating on knife crime emergency care in the and A-Sisterhood supports integral causes worldwide such as the Stop Acid Attack teams in India.
On 13th April 2025, Xantia will take part in the Newport Half Marathon to raise money for BWP and has set up a GoFundMe online fundraising page at bit.ly/3Y8u7bN. The following month (May) it will be the Miss Wales finals.
