BBC releases teaser photos of Gavin & Stacey Christmas Day special

NEW teaser images from the Gavin and Stacey final episode have been released by the BBC.

First aired in 2007, the hit comedy series is set to come to an end this month when the finale airs on Christmas Day.

Nessa and Smithy were last seen in 2019 when the iconic Nessa played by Ruth Jones went down on one knee in the final moments as she proposed to Smithy who is played by fellow co-writer and star James Corden. The cliffhanger left millions of viewers open-mouthed with shock and fans eager to know whether Smithy accepted Nessa’s proposal.

Five years later, it is not known if the last episode will take off where it left off or if it has moved on to the present day. It is also unclear whether it will be set over the festive season as no Christmas decorations are evident from the images.

Millions of people are expected to be watching the Gavin and Stacey finale when it is aired at 9pm via BBC iPlayer and BBC One on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: “It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened since then.

“In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex, Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their 17-year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely.

“Over in Billericay, Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly-retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room – and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.

“Join us on the journey to Barry and Billericay as we catch up with the Shipmans and the Wests for the very last time – and maybe find out what exactly did happen on that fishing trip.”
