Teenager dies from a ‘medical episode’ at local pleasure park
A 16-year-old boy has died at Barry Island Pleasure Park after suffering from what police have described as a “medical episode”.
At about 5pm yesterday, May 23, emergency services rushed to the park and joined soon after by an air ambulance but the unnamed youngster was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The fairground was closed whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called just before 5pm this evening, Friday May 23, with a report of a 16-year-old teenage boy suffering a medical episode in Barry Island Pleasure Park.
“Despite efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances of the death.”
In an earlier statement by South Wales Police (SWP), the force asked members of the public not to speculate about what may have happened at the amazement park after several social media groups and news media outlets posted inaccurate and misleading messages and reports.
SWP are appealing to anyone with information that could assist their investigation to contact them quoting ref number 2500163611.
