Visitors to castle take a trip back in time
Visitors to Fonmon Castle in the Vale were transported back to medieval times over the Easter weekend.
It is fair to say that TV series such as Game of Thrones and Vikings have sparked a renewed interest in old-fashioned hand-to-hand combat.
Activities on April 16th, 17th and 18th included jousting and fighting displays from the Knights of Albion, archery sessions from The Cosmeston Archers, medieval surgery talks and the chance to explore medieval encampments.
Ross O’Hennessy, who runs the attractions at Fonmon, said the weekend was a great success: “The Knights of Albion staged a series of dazzling battles that had visitors of all ages transfixed.
“Our Medieval Village was a hive of activity – people loved the gory surgery talks, and spent the day immersed in history. The Cosmeston Archers really excelled with their archery displays, and visitors jumped at the chance to have a go themselves.
“We love bringing history to life with events like this – next on the agenda is our Viking weekend on August 13th and 14th, followed by a visit from Napoleonic cavalry and troops on August 20th and 21st.”
