Barry Youth chalked up another impressive league victory, making it three on the bounce, running in seven tries at the Reservoir Field as Treorchy ended well beaten in a match that proved fiery at times.

Coach John Dimond had done his homework, having watched Treorchy in action against Pontypridd. “I told our boys they would bring some heat down with their massive forwards. The first few minutes were a bit of an arm wrestle. Then we went back to what we know, and it just started to open up.”

Barry’s skill set and speed have produced a so far unbeaten season. “Our boys were outstanding, with a high level of commitment, speed and agility,” said Dimond. “It’s proven now that teams can’t compete against our higher speed.”

He singled out Brandon Harris, one of the seven try scorers. “He was relentless, whatever they threw at him. But they all excelled. We keep things rolling.”

Dimond expected a bit of fire, and the match produced it. As things got away from Treorchy, the visitors picked up red cards for a late hit after one of the Barry tries, and a replacement running on to the pitch as things erupted. Both sides also had a player yellow-carded.

Barry make the long trip to Talgarth to take on Gwernyfed in their next league fixture on February 11. “We’ve got a week off to get knocks and scrapes better before we go to Gwernyfed,” said Dimond. “Let’s see if we can put them to bed and reach halfway in the league unbeaten.”
